Tech-Ed 2010 Free Sessions Online till 25th Sep

If like me you could not attend Tech-Ed in New Orleans then you might want to register for some free sessions that are available online until the 25th Sept.

Some of the sessions include tips on upgrading to Exchange 2010, building applications with Silverlight and Sharepoint 2010, Hyper-V's new Dynamic Memory in depth, deploying applications in a virtual environment and more.

Some of the speakers include Jeff Guillet, Stacia Misner, Paul Robichaux  and Kevin Cox. Register now and view while you can.

SQL Transaction log growth whilst in Simple mode

Have you ever wondered why the SQL transaction log continues to grow even though the database is running in Simple recovery mode? I have noticed this a few times before but never really looked into it too much as I have always had the space to allow the log to grow and then reclaim the space later however I was recently working on a VMware Virtual Center instance and had very little disk space so I ended up learning something new.

Free SQL Server Training available..... at your desk!

I've been doing some downloading, reading and viewing of some great free SQL Server training lately. If you are interested in learning more about SQL server however either don't have the $$$ or the time to attend training then this may be useful for you also.

SQL Bits is a SQL Server community group that's been put together by a bunch of talented SQL community members for the benefit of the community. They deliver SQL server training in the UK however the really great thing is that you can view and download lots of the sessions and slides decks for the past events for free.

SQL Bits UK

Quest Software also have available online until the 23rd August 2010 the sessions they recently recorded on SQL performance tuning, management and troublehsooting. There is some fantastic information available and even though Quest sell management tools for SQL (plus other) these sessions are not sales pitches. I'd encourage those that may be interested in checking them out. They include some of the best SQL minds in the community including Kevin KlineBuck Woody from Microsoft and Brent Ozar (recent addition to the SQL MCM community and now working over @ SQLSkills).

Virtual Training for SQL Server Perf Mon and Wait Events

If you miss the deadline for the online sessions you can order a DVD if you are in the US from Quest.

My road to obtaining the VCP on vSphere 4

I passed my VCP 4 exam this week. I have been interested in virtualisation for years however I have not been working as a VMware administrator. I have access to ESX 3.5 with a HA/DRS cluster but I don’t work hands on everyday. Since I work in the Infrastructure area of the Application support team I had good general knowledge of virtualisation and its benefits and effects on application availability.

Exchange 2010 Documentation/Help available for download

I was just looking for some information on the pre-reading list for Exchange 2010 MCM. According to Greg Taylor the only list is to read the Exchange 2010 help file which is now available for download.
